EDMONTON, AB: The Canadian Taxpayers Federation (CTF) is reminding Albertans that this Friday, February 24th, is their final chance to make a submission to the MLA Compensation Review Committee and its sole committee member, Justice Major.
“Since it’s highly doubtful the Alberta Government, the Legislative Assembly of Alberta or the MLA Compensation Review Committee will remind Albertans about this looming deadline, we figured it was up to us to do it,” said CTF Alberta Director, Scott Hennig.
“If Albertans don’t say in a loud, clear voice that they want MLA pay reformed, Justice Major and Premier Redford will just assume all is well and sweep this under the carpet,” explained Hennig.
The CTF is encouraging Albertans to send a quick email to Justice Major ([email protected]) asking for three things: reverse the secret, self-given 30 per cent pay hikes of 2008, make MLA pay fully taxable and eliminate the gold-plated “transition allowances.”
“It only takes one minute to fire off a quick email to Justice Major letting him know how you feel,” continued Hennig. “We can’t let this opportunity for reform slip by.”
The CTF made 12 recommendations in their 35 page submission to the MLA Compensation Review. It can be downloaded here: /media/Reversing-the-Kowalski-Legacy.pdf
